Bimatoprost (trade names include Lumigan, Latisse, Bimat, Bimican, Carelash, Careprost, Glamigan, Lumigan-RC, Miraclash, TopLash, Xlash) is an ophthalmological medication from prostaglandin analogues pharmacological group. This medicine is indicated topically as eye drops for the treatment of certain diseases of eyes like open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension which occurs in many people as they grow older (as monotherapy or in combinations with beta-blockers). It works by reducing intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid from the eyes.
Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution is used as a cosmetic drug to treat eyelash hypotrichosis (not enough eyelashes) by increasing their growth, and to help eyelashes making and grow longer, thicker and darker.
This medication is also in research studies by Allergan pharmaceutical company for the therapy of androgenic alopecia and non-scarring hair loss.
